This year is off to a great start!

Just got back from the JEN (Jazz Education Network) Conference where I had the privilege to present a clinic about the USC Roland Drum Lab with my mentor Peter Erskine, as well as play a fun concert with the Budman/Levy Orchestra. It was great to see so many old friends/teachers, meet so many new people, and hear so much inspiring music. My friend Brian Carmody presented an excellent lecture about Kenny Clarke, and it just happened to be Klook's centennial birthday! All around, it was a very educational and musical week.

Speaking of musical weeks, this past one was no exception. On Thursday, it was a blast to play with Dave Slonaker's big band and celebrate his Grammy nomination. The band was so killer - check out his album "Intrada" - fantastic writing and top-notch players! Then, on Sunday, it was a treat to play Jazz @ the A-Frame with Nick Mancini's quartet, featuring John Campbell and Greg Swiller. The audience was so attentive and responsive. What a special experience!

Looking forward to hanging out at the NAMM show this weekend. Many thanks to the great companies I proudly endorse for their continual drumming innovations and support: Gretsch drums, Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks, and Evans drumheads. (Note to self: bring earplugs!)

Anyway, many exciting things on the horizon - a Cow Bop tour, the Kiven album will soon be released, performing with the Long Beach Symphony Pops, and working on publishing my first instructional book with Alfred Music (Wahoo!).

Wishing everyone a prosperous and happy new year!
