As the school year winds down and summer unofficially begins, I'm writing to update the internet world on all that is happening in my neck of the woods.
First things first - I'm finally graduating from USC with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies, which (hopefully) means I will never have to go back to school as a student. Special thanks to Peter Erskine, Dr. Thom Mason, Bruce Forman, Aaron Serfaty, and Bob Mintzer for sharing your years of experience and wealth of knowledge about music and everything related to it.
Now that academia is out of the way, there should be a lot more time to do what I love - and that is play the drums. It has been wonderful to play with so many amazing musicians since the beginning of this year, as well as listen to so many great live performances here in LA.
This should be a fun summer. Kiven is working on a full length record - which is going to seriously rock. Cow Bop has a couple of tours in order: one riding down historic Route 66 ("it winds from Chicago to LA") ... and we're doing an early August tour in New Caladonia and New Zealand.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to recording with tenor saxophonist David Sills on his new album. Not only is David one of my favorite players in town, but this project will feature a few more of my faves: pianist Chris Dawson, guitarist Larry Koonse, and bassist Darek Oles. Can't wait!
Here's to a great summer!!!
